Water Filter Types and Their Purification Technologies

Water is a vital component in our everyday lives. Since its foundation, Ronaqua has been using the latest scientific developments in the field of water purification in its products. There are several water filter types based on different water filter technologies that we implement to purify water. But which of those should you use to effectively purify water for drinking purposes? To give the correct answer to this question, it is necessary in every concrete case to determine what kind of water purification or filtration one needs. This can be recognized with the help of chemical and bacteriological tests which could be easily conducted with our affordable water quality testers. However, in some cases, you can do without them.

It should be noted that in most cases, the additional purification of water by a filter is carried out not by one method, but by a combination of them. Such an integrated approach gives the best results. Now let's take a closer look.

Types of Water Filter Technologies Ronaqua Uses

Sediment

One of the most common water filter types for home, these filters are specially designed to remove all solid and insoluble particles from the water. The sediment filter catches all undissolved substances due to the difference in the size of the particles themselves and the filter channels. Made of fine melted polypropylene, a sediment filter shaped into a cylindrical form essentially functions like a net that catches unwanted dirt particles as your water flows through the system. Removal of these particles allows filters such as carbon block filters or GAC (granular activated carbon) to work more efficiently and longer further along the water circuit.

Material: polypropylene microfibers, thermally bonded to prevent any fiber migration.

Filtration of: dirt, sediment, sand, silt, scale, lime, rust, fine particles.

Applications: pure water pre-filtration, water treatment, fine chemicals, reverse osmosis, seawater desalination, beverages, solvents, cosmetics, etc.

Pleated Sediment

Pleated sediment filters are produced from a polypropylene core with an impregnated resin coiled cellulose and polyester medium. The pleated design provides a reinforced filter surface area that can extend filter life while removing unwanted particles.

Filters using this technology have many advantages. Due to the significantly increased filtering area, these filters last longer and slightly decreases the water pressure flow in the pipe compared to other water filter types. Also, 100% synthetic filter material is cleanable which also extends the service life of this filter. This technology is considered more efficient and these filters outperform other depth type sediment filters. The cartridges combine quality and cost-effectiveness to provide excellent filtration value. Available in a variety of micron ratings and sizes to meet your application needs.

Material: pleated polypropylene or stainless steel filtering net with a polypropylene inner core.

Filtration of: dirt, sediment, sand, silt, scale, lime, rust, fine particles.

Applications: drinking water, boilers, washing machines, pre-filtration of water pumps, irrigation systems, protection of industrial installations, etc.

Carbon Block

Carbon block is a cohesive monolithic structure and is characterized by higher processability compared to conventional bulk water filter types. Usually, the carbon block is produced from powdered activated carbon, which is mixed with ground polyethylene, after which it undergoes sintering: under the influence of temperature, small particles of coal (20 to 50 microns) "stick together". As water passes through a carbon filter, impurities like VOCs and heavy metals as well as a lot of other unwanted impurities become chemically bonded to the carbon. As a result, an ordered sorption medium appears, whose properties, for example, porosity, can be controlled at the manufacturing stage. In addition, these properties remain constant throughout the life of the module. Due to the fact that the particles of the sorbent are fastened together in the carbon blocks, there are practically no channel effects inherent in conventional bulk filters.

If you’ve made a choice in favor of a filter built using this technology, you can rest assured that you will have access to fresh and clean water. The water will leave the filter much more pure and healthier than it came in.

Material: Pressed activated carbon made of 100% pure coconut shell covered in food-grade plastic material as polypropylene fleece and net or washed polypropylene yarn or polyester. BPA Free, environment-friendly.

Removal of: sediment, chlorine, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), benzene, radon, solvents trihalomethane compounds, iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide organic substances, pesticides and herbicides and hundreds of other man-made chemicals as well as color, odors and unpleasant tastes.

Applications: drinking water, washing machines, anti-chlorine treatment, chemical and pharmaceutical industry, pre-treatment for reverse osmosis units, etc.

GAC - Granular Activated Carbon

Granular Activated Carbon Filters (GAC) which are also sometimes referred to as “charcoal filters” are a proven method of effectively reducing certain chemical compounds, foul tastes, and odors from water. GAC is composed of coconuts shells or coal that removes specific chemicals passing through them by absorbing it.

All Ronaqua GAC filters are made with high-quality coconut shell carbons crushed into positively charged granules. These positively charged granules in the filter extract negative ions from the water, such as chlorine, fluorides, ozone, and dissolved organic solutes. By eliminating organic/industrial chemicals that seep into water sources and through plumbing, you are left with good, general purpose drinking water.

Material: Granulated activated carbon made of 100% pure coconut shell covered in food-grade plastic material as polypropylene fleece and net or washed polypropylene yarn or polyester. BPA Free, environment-friendly.

Removal of: Hydrogen Sulfide, Chlorine, Phenol, Ethylene, Bromoform and a huge number of organic/synthetic chemicals that give color, odor, and unpleasant tastes

Applications: Drinking water, Washing machines, Boilers, Whole House, Under the Sink, Etc.

Ultraviolet Light Purifier

If you are concerned about possible microbiological contamination or live in a rural setting, you should consider getting an ultraviolet water purifier. This device is different from other water filter types. Because an ultraviolet purifier doesn’t remove any other contaminants such as metals and chemicals, other filtration devices are needed. However, UV water purifiers are a proven reliable and cost-efficient method in disinfecting 99% of bacteria including Giardia and Cryptosporidium from the water. Ultraviolet light produced by the lamp of these filters penetrates into cells of microorganisms and acts on their DNA. With this effect, the cells of microorganisms are damaged at the genetic level and then cannot function properly and multiply.

Ronaqua’s UV light purifiers are powerful enough to sanitize the whole house for drinking and cleaning usage. Our water treatment system continuously works night and day to consistently keep your water disinfected. Environmentally friendly and quickly installed, the result is sparkling clean and great tasting water free from microorganisms.
